ONLY BELIEVE

John 5:24 – “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.”

The way of salvation is simple – “only believe”. But we read about the many difficulties that Jesus’ listeners had in simply believing Him, and our own experiences teach us the same thing. Salvation is free but it is not cheap and believing is simple but not always easy.

Let us consider a couple of the blockages to belief that Jesus pointed out:

– The religious leaders were too focused on the glory that comes from man – “How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God? (John 5:44)

– The crowd who followed Jesus’ were so focused on the natural food Jesus had provided through a miracle that they didn’t give attention to believing Jesus’ message, which was spiritual food. (John 6:26-36)

Even some of the disciples did not truly believe because they didn’t deeply understand that “the Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing.” (John 6:63-64)

Indeed, we cannot save ourselves by our good works or efforts and if we are to believe, we must not seek human glory or focus too much on our own need for material breakthrough. We must receive the Word of God in our hearts, and then, as Prophet TB Joshua said, “Believing is simply acting on the Word”.

PRAYER: Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief!

SEE YOUR SITUATION AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO DRAW CLOSER TO GOD!

“Moses told his father-in-law about everything the Lord had done to Pharaoh and the Egyptians for Israel’s sake and about all the hardships they had met along the way and how the Lord had saved them.“ Exodus 18:8

When Moses was leading the people of Israel through the wilderness after their deliverance from Egypt, he met up one day with his father-in-law, Jethro. After recounting to him God’s mighty power in delivering them from Egypt, Moses also highlighted all the hardships they had been through after that deliverance, testifying to Jethro about how God had saved them each time they called on Him.

Take note – being delivered from the hands of the Egyptians did not mean an end to their hardships! They faced many trials and temptations on their journey – such as a shortage of water and food – but the purpose of each hardship was to teach them total dependence on God. As a Christian, examine your life and you would discover that one of the main ways we learn dependence on God is through cycles of hardship or difficulty – in which we draw closer to Him and He delivers us from them or in them.

But as Jesus warned us in Luke 21:34, instead of seeing them as an opportunity to draw closer to God, we are tempted to either try to escape them using alternatives outside of Christ or to become anxious, worried and desperate. Ask yourself today – in the midst of your difficulty, pressure or tension, will you try to escape, become worried and anxious, or will you see that situation as an opportunity to draw closer to God?

PRAYER: Oh LORD, help me to turn away today from that which has the power to turn me away from You, and give me the grace to turn to You in the midst of my trials, in Jesus’ mighty name!

DON’T BE DISCOURAGED!

Moses reported this to the Israelites, but they did not listen to him because of their discouragement and harsh labour.” Exodus 6:9

What Moses was reporting to the Israelites was good news – that God was going to free them from their slavery in Egypt and take them to the Promised Land. But the people did not listen to him because they were discouraged – looking at their condition in the natural. Indeed, the situation on the ground seemed to be getting worse because Pharaoh had increased their workload.

What is the lesson for us as believers? In the course of our Christian journey, challenges will certainly come! In fact, when God is coming with a huge blessing for you, one of the first signs is that you will receive attacks! They are informants of promotion. But we must not allow these challenges to overwhelm us to the point of falling into discouragement.

A discouraged heart cannot be sensitive to hear what God is saying about the situation. Because when you are discouraged, you will look at life through the lens of your circumstances. Recall the words of Prophet TB Joshua: “God cannot use a discouraged servant.” He also said, “when you run out of rope, hang onto God” Therefore, no matter what you are going through, see your challenge as a reason to depend on God, knowing that beyond that challenge lies Divine promotion!

PRAYER: Oh Lord, I cannot get along without You! Show Yourself stronger in my life! Release me into my Divine future, in Jesus’ mighty name!

DON’T JUDGE, LEAVE IT FOR GOD!

“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?” Matthew 7:1-3

It is common today to see people quickly pass judgment on others when they see them take certain actions – yet also justify themselves if a situation arises in which they take those very same actions. Why? Often, you judge yourself according to your intentions, but judge others according to their actions – or rather your own interpretation of their actions.

As a result, we are often inclined to be more lenient on ourselves and more critical of others – because we don’t make the same instinctive allowance for weaknesses in others as we do for ourselves. The simple answer given by Jesus Christ was not to judge others at all but to leave judgement for God. If we judge others now, who will judge us on the Last Day? Take time to reflect on this and prioritise taking care of your own heart in the light of God’s Word.

PRAYER: Oh LORD, draw me to a closer relationship with You – in the mighty name of Jesus Christ!

GOD’S GLORY THE VANGUARD OF MY LIFE

He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.” Colossians 1:28-29

Apostle Paul was supernaturally strengthened to carry out his mission for Christ as ‘strenuously contended’ for God’s purpose – keeping God’s glory at the forefront of his motives. Truly, the highest motive in serving God is the desire to please Him and love for Jesus Christ is the only motive that will stand the test of time. The journey of life comes with both good and hard times – and no one depending solely on natural strength or human gifts can stand in the face of this unless he is strengthened from above.

One may show great zeal for God out of mere conviction – but when the thorns, heat and vicissitudes of life come, the unstable zeal will soon be choked. It takes supernatural strength to steady our hearts in the face of life’s ups and downs – to not get overwhelmed by man’s praise or overtaken by man’s persecution. Our relationship with God must be the principle from which we act and the end at which we aim. In other words, keep Jesus at the centre of your life! Yes, challenges will come, but there will be strength to see you through. Yes, temptation will come, there will be grace to overcome. There will be supernatural endowment to achieve your God-given assignment – for His glory!

PRAYER: Whatever barrier that stands between your heart and the Holy Spirit – command it to be removed, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ!

YIELD TO CHRIST’S LEADING TO AVOID THE DEVIL’S BAIT.

“Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” Ephesians 6:11

The devil is a wily foe! And there is not enough physical or mental strength to contend with his cunning tricks. It takes the spiritual strength of one grounded in the Living Word to identify his tricks for what they are. Irrespective of the method he uses, the devil’s aim is clear – to break your communion with God and cut off your dependence upon Him. One of his most common traps – which most of us encounter on an almost daily basis – is offence. The major challenge is that when we get offended, we hardly realise how trapped we are!

But remember – no one knows you better than you know yourself. If you discover the peace of heart and internal joy Christ promised His followers has started seeping out of your daily life and decisions, take time to examine yourself. Are you harbouring offence in your heart? Is your spirit free? People of God, stop making it easy for the devil!

Be encouraged by this powerful quotable quotes by anointed servants of God -:

“Hurt happens, forgiveness is the best choice, so choose forgiveness.” Pastor Tim Coop, Pantano Christian Church, USA. May 2003

“Hurt happens, it is the devil’s bait, so don’t take it” Pastor Glen Elliott, Pantano Christian Church, USA. May 2003

“You will receive in a moment what you have been seeking for years when you let go of offence!” Prophet TB Joshua, SCOAN Nigeria.

“Let go and let God be God in every moment of your life for victory” Pastor Tim Coop, Pantano Christian Church, USA. June 2006

PRAYER: My heart is the prayer room. LORD, speak to my heart; let me hear Your voice! Help me to let go of offence that I may be sensitive to the leading of Your Spirit – in the mighty name of Jesus Christ!

JESUS’ FOCUS!

“All a man’s ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by the Lord.” Proverbs 16:2

Most of us live our lives so focused on how we are doing, how we are feeling and how we are treated but do we ever take time to stop and consider what Jesus’ focus is? We know God by the Word He speaks and His Word represents His heart’s desire. A look at God’s words will not take you long to realise that what He is looking at is most often not what we are looking at!

➡️ In a shepherd boy, he saw a king (1 Samuel 16:7)
➡️ In a convicted criminal, he saw a heart to change (Luke 23:43)
➡️ In a few pennies of the widow’s mite, he saw a true act of worship (Mark 12:41)

That is because Jesus’ focus is the motive behind what we do – that is why He tests our hearts to reward us. So don’t be too quick to rejoice, to condemn, to criticise the actions of others because Jesus is interested in the motivation of our heart. It is time to examine your own motives. Why do you do what you do? Do you talk to be seen, walk to be noticed, give to be praised?

PRAYER – Ask God to give you a heart that is pure, a heart that does not bear grudges, a heart that is simple and sincere, not a rebellious heart – in the mighty name of Jesus Christ!
